A proton magnetic resonance study of hydrogen bonding and self-association processes of trimethylacetic acid
1975
Abstract The carboxyl proton chemical shifts of trimethylacetic acid dissolved in cyclohexane and carbon tetrachloride have been measured as a function of concentration at temperatures of 293, 308, 323, 333, and 347 K. The possibilities of obtaining reliable information about processes of molecular association through hydrogen bonds, using equilibrium constants and quasi-lattice methods for interpretation of experimental data have been studied. The chemical shifts of monomers, cyclic dimers, open associates of trimethylacetic acid, and the thermodynamic parameters of the association have been calculated.
