A case of telematic diagnostics in an early detection, treatment and follow-up of a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST)

In the summer of 2001, by employing telematic diagnostics applications, we discovered a case of gastrointestinal tumor (GIST) in a 54 year old man who was vacationing in Cres, on the island of Cres. As it turned out, our patient was only the second GIST diagnosed case in Croatia at the time. Since this was a newly discovered disease, we followed it up attentively and consulted about its progress and treatment with colleagues at the University Clinical & Hospital Center in Zagreb. The diagnosis was reconfirmed by pathohisthological expertise at the Paul Brousse Hospital in Paris.
