Species of the Genus Teucrium L. as Sources of Active Pharmaceutical Substances with Antimicrobial, Anti-Inflammatory, and Radioprotective Activity (Review)

2021
Literature data on the contents of secondary metabolite complexes in plants of the genus Teucrium L. (germander) including essential oil, phenolic compounds (flavonoids, iridoids), diterpenoids, and hydroxycinnamic acids are summarized. The spectrum of biological activity of these compounds is described both under normal conditions and in various pathological states. The need to determine the main quality indicators and develop methods for standardization of plant raw materials indicates further in-depth research of Teucrium species that can be sources of pharmaceutical substances for obtaining new drugs with antibacterial, antimicrobial, and radioprotective properties is promising.
