This paper describes the evolution of the professional figure of Rescue Swimmer, since its inception to the present day. This profession has moved from being almost anonymous to becoming consistently present on medias. This is due to the difficult conditions that rescue swimmers face every time they conduct a rescue. The aim of this paper is to highlight aspects of this professional figure and its importance nowadays. Our research analyses why Recue Swimmers have to specialize in certain functions and what could happen if there was a lack of those abilities. This study illustrates an interesting story about a profession that, besides being vocational, requires high physical and mental strength, features highlighted in literature and in questionnaires applied to active Rescue Swimmers in our country.
