Of 41 sp1b jec~e, 35 (85.4% 1 had a Gnal diagnosi of a gynecologic disorder. Pelvic ukasound examination waspoeitiv6 in 19 of 35 454.3%). Ten positive tests had relativJy specific findings that supported (seven) or helped change Ohree) the initial cliniCal diagnosis. Fdine positive tests had norspecific findings that were ConsisteEpt vt ruled out complications of acute salpingitis (five); or discriminated between alptemative diagnose8 (three). One teat was falsely positive. Wltrasonography was most clearly cost-e%ctive w&em surgery was being considered. We con&de that pelvic ultrasound examination may be a useful diagnostic adjunct in this type of adolescent patient.
