Fokker 50 - Technology versus Certification Experience

The Fokker 50 was awarded a type certificate on the 15th May 1987, ending adevelopment program launched In November 1983. This aircraft, which started fife asa re-engined derivative of the F27 Mk 500,evolved into a state-of-the-art turboprop airliner making full use of current technology. A major part of the program was an update of the certification base, achieved in close cooperation with the Dutch civil aviation authority (RLD). Experience gained during the development process generally confirmed the need for direct interaction between the technology adopted and the evolving basis for certification.
