Magnetoelasticity and moment rotation in amorphous rare earth-iron alloys

Abstract A model of magnetoelasticity for amorphous alloys with large, local, magnetic anisotropy is presented. Calculations of the velocity of sound with applied magnetic field are compared with experiment and related to the susceptibility of magnetic regions within the alloy. A report is given on the size of these regions from small angle neutron scattering measurements.
