Optical and Magneto-Optical Responses of 1D-MPC with Double Layer Iron Garnet Films in Transmission and Reflection

2014
Abstract. Optical and magneto-optical spectra in transmission and reflection and its features for microcavity one-dimensional magnetophotonic crystals with double layer bismuth-substituted iron garnet films are considered. Key words: one-dimensional magnetophotonic crystal, bismuth-substituted iron garnet films, Faraday rotation, Kerr rotation. I. I NTRODUCTION In the last two decades, many researchers paid close attention to such area of nanophysics as magnetophotonics [1 - 3]. For applications in some magneto-optical (MO) devices the large Faraday and Kerr rotation angles and high transmissivity in visible wavelength are very fruitful. This work focuses on the spectral characteristics of the Faraday and polar Kerr effects in microcavity one-dimensional magnetophotonic crystal (1D-MPC) structures based on double layer magneto-active bismuth-substituted iron garnet (Bi: YIG) films [3].
