PURPOSE: To obtain a soluble catalyst compsn. capable of economically producing high mol.wt. polyark-1-ene by adding a specific metallocene complex and a specific open-chain or cyclic alumoxane compd. as an active component. CONSTITUTION: A catalyst compsn. for polymerizing 2-10C alkene-1 is obtained by compounding a metallocene complex represented by formula I [M is Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb or Ta; X is halogen or 1-8C alkyl; Y is C, P, Si or Ge; Z is 1-8C alkyl, 3-10C cycloalkyl or 6-10C aryl; R 1 and R 2 are each 1-4C alkyl; R 3 and R 6 are each H or 1-8C alkyl (two neighboring groups R 3 and R 4 as well as R 5 and R 6 may together form a 4-15C hydrocarbon cyclic compsn. according to circumstances) and n is 0, 1 or 2] and an open-chain or cyclic almoxane compd. (B) represented by formula II or III (R 9 is 1-4C alkyl and m is 5-30) as active components. By using this catalyst compsn., a high mol.wt. polyalk-1- ene can be economically produced.
