Outage Probability of a CSK Transmission in Visible Light Communications Systems

2020
In visible light communications technology, color-shift keying (CSK) is one of the modulation schemes recommended for the implementation of high data rate applications. It exploits light sources generating light with a Lambertian pattern. As a result, the transmitted message reaches the receiver through both line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight paths, and the corresponding channel is modeled using the Rician distribution. This paper analyzes the outage probability, i.e., the probability that the locally measured signal-to-noise ratio of a CSK link falls under a threshold predefined for a specific quality of service. Results are presented for a random white color and the D65 noon daylight.
