3D seismic analogs construction from a shallow broadband seismic

2020
Abstract Nowadays, the exploration and discovery of new oil fields is profitable only when people have a detailed knowledge of the internal architecture of the reservoir. Despite the considerable advances in the fields of seismic acquisition and processing there is a lack of seismic resolution at depths compatible with the expected hydrocarbon traps. Also, well data provide precise information, but they are available only locally. These limitations induce an uncertain knowledge of the petroleum reservoir. To overcome the lack of knowledge, geoscientists rely on multiple realizations brought by geostatistical methods. However, they are not always representatives of the reservoir geological reality. In this paper, we rely on the broadband seismic resolution, especially in the shallow part, where it is possible to finely observe the geometry of the bodies and the connectivities in three-dimension to create 3D seismic analogs. Once the seismic analog is created, we propose to store them in a catalog as continuous, non-discrete properties. Therefore, the 3D seismic analog could be adapted (by modifying its proportion) to deeper reservoir targets.
