Isolation of nematophagous fungi from sheep faeces and evaluation of their nematode trapping ability

2015
Pooled faecal samples of Patanwadi sheep maintained were screened monthly from January to December 2011 for isolating nematophagous fungi. Two isolates of common nematophagous fungus, Arthrobotrys oligospora and one of Duddingtonia flagrans were isolated. One isolate of each fungus was evaluated for its nematode trapping ability by in vitro and in vivo studies. Of the two isolates evaluated, D. flagrans was found to be highly effective against Haemonchus contortus in sheep.
