INFLUENCES OF OOPHORECTOMY ON MORHOLOGY OF THYMUS This experimental study was performed to determine the effects of oophorectomy on the morphology of the thymus. Female, 90 days old, 50 Swiss albino rats those have never given hirth were used. The rats were divided in three groups. The first group has un¬dergone unilateral oophorectomy. Bilateral oophorectomy performed to the rats in the second group. The third group was the control group. Five months after oophorectomy, their thymuses had been removed; thickness of cortex and, weight of the thymus and living rat weight were measured. Results of the two groups have been compared with the control group. Regarding the results of unilateral oophorectomy and control group, bilateral and control group, and unilateral and bilateral group, we found that the re¬sults show statistically significant differences. We observed that bilateral oophorecto¬my have caused the hypertrophy on cortex of thymus and unilateral oophorectomy have caused more cortex involution. Bu deneysel arastirma, ooforektominin timus morfolojisi uzerindeki etkilerini saptamak amaciyla gerceklestirildi. Arastirmada disi, doksan gunluk, hic dogum yapmamis 50 Swiss albino rat kullanildi. Ratlar uc gruba ayrildi. Gruplardan birine unilateral, digerine bilateral ooforektomi uygulandi. Bir grup, kontrol grubu olarak alindi. Ooforektomiden bes ay sonra ratlann timuslari cikartildi. Timus korteks kalinliklari, timus agirliklari ve canli rat agirligi olculdu. Ooforektomi uygulanan iki grup, kontrol grubu ile karsilastirildi. Bilateral-kontrol, unilateral-kontrol ve bilateral-unilateral gruplar arasindaki faklar, istatistiksel olarak onemliydi. Sonuc olarak bilateral ooforektominin kortex hipertrofisine, unilateral ooforektominin ise daha fazla korteks involusyonuna neden oldugu goruldu
