Elastic, hydrophilic and biodegradable poly (1, 8-octanediol-co-citric acid)/polylactic acid nanofibrous membranes for potential wound dressing applications

2019
Abstract A series of elastic nanofibrous membranes (NFMs) was fabricated by electrospinning using polylactic acid (PLA) and a biodegradable elastomer, poly (1, 8-octanediol-co-citric acid) (POC) as raw materials. The compatibility of POC/PLA blending was explored through the thermodynamic theory and exhibited the miscibility of POC/PLA blending system. After comprehensive considering the blending compatibility, morphology, mechanical properties, hydrophilicity, swelling properties and in vitro degradation, the blending NFMs with a POC/PLA ratio of 25/75 was selected as a drug carrier for aspirin sustained release. To sum up, this study demonstrates that the aspirin-loaded POC/PLA: 25/75 NFMs have good potentials for the wound dressing applications.
