Thousands of gallons of fuel are transferred and transported throughout the world by various modes each day. The flammability level, or flash point, of fuels and other flammable liquids is critical information so that appropriate safety precautions can be taken when handling or transporting these materials. Flash point is also a key criterion in fuel specification and engine design. To streamline the process of determining flash point, new standards and technological advances have been developed that reduce the amount of sample required for each test and reduced the time period for the test.
