The purpose of this study is to examine how to incorporate historical contents if sculptures are installed in the everyday space that is mainly used by local residents. For this purpose, the research area was the development of symbolic sculpture suitable for the local policy direction by regardin bridges as the physical action place among the places that local residents share in their daily life. The purpose of this study is to present the feasibility of reconstructing a bridge, which is ordinary space of a region, into a symbolic sculpture containing a cultural story. Finally, it was expected that the bridge symbolic sculpture containing a story would be utilized as a space for local economy activation that can spread the region widely. Research methods are as follows: First, the symbolic sculpture function and role of big bridges at home and abroad were reviewed and compared through the literature research. Second, the storytelling application and strategy of symbolic sculpture were sought. Third, the applicability of symbolic sculpture which combined local culture and storytelling was proposed. To this end, we discussed the relationship with local symbolic sculpture in terms of aesthetics that introduced the concept of pluralism. The research findings are as follows: Symbolic sculpture, the Yeoju Bridge spread the real story of ceramic and brought in the story object, enabling the activation of the created local resources. Furthermore, it was able to develop the process of strengthening storytelling by continuously reflecting the actual historical and cultural story on the object. Recently, public symbolic sculptures have been constructed thoughtlessly and it can be seen as a factor contributing to improvement of dominant perception of waste of budget. Symbolic sculpture will be a positive value object if there is a continuous effort to link the resources of the region with the humanistic concept (storytelling) and draw it into the physical visual object. It can be seen that the utilization of local contents through the culture, and the improvement of the surrounding environment were the factors that activate local competitiveness. If we want to continuously promote local culture and improve the quality value of the environment citizens are using, storytelling of symbolic sculpture will be an important factor for strengthening local brand.
