A hybrid type valve arrester for the protection of substation overvoltage

The issue analyses traditional arresters at first, and a novel overvoltage protection is proposed by combining ZnO valve piece and SiC valve piece. The three arresters imposed by switching overvolatge and lightning overvoltage have been tested in PSCAD, and results indicate that hybrid type valve arrester perform excellently.
