Large scale object's measurement method research based on multi-view Reconstruction

Large scale object is difficult to measure its size because of the complicated shape. The traditional contact measuring method's range is limited, and is not suitable for curved structure. Optical non-contact measurement is a better choice to deal with this situation. Multi-view Reconstruction measurement method is used in this paper. It only uses a digital camera to take pictures of large objects from a number of locations and angles. By multi-view reconstruction technique, the three-dimensional coordinates of multiple points of interest on the large object are calculated. We can use these results to get the geometric parameters of large scale objects. The experimental results show that the method can effectively reconstruct the sparse point cloud of large objects, and accurately measure the size and other information. For 5m to 10m objects, the measurement accuracy is less than 2mm.
