An efficient pressure-based methodology for low Mach flow simulations (Plenary lecture)

2018
The challenge in simulating low Mach flows lies in the large difference of magnitude between the speed of the (fast) acoustic waves and the (slow) entropy/vorticity waves. In a first part, thanks to an asymptotic analysis of the governing equations, the clear distinction between zero Mach and low Mach flows will be recalled. Then, the main features of a pressure-based co-located finite volume approach aimed at accurately handling this class of flows will be presented along with verifications tests that will evidence the versatility of the proposed methodology.
