Management of Biopsies and Operation Specimens of the Anorectal Region
1990
As a member of the medical team responsible for the patient’s health, the pathologist is a consultant whose duty is to give important advice on the diagnosis, the treatment, and the prognosis of the disease. It is not useless to emphasize that he will not be able to accomplish this task in a satisfactory manner unless he is given a minimum of clinical information on the one hand, and material of good quality and adequate quantity on the other [5, 10, 12]. Clinical information should be given to the pathologist either in writing on the request form or by oral communication. It should include the following features:
Sufficient clinical data
The endoscopic appearance of the lesions
The site of the biopsy or biopsies
The type of operation
