ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTING POLYPYRROLES AS MULTIFUNCTIONAL COUPLING AGENTS IN HETEROGENEOUS POLYMER BLENDS

compatibilization. In order to allow a better understanding of the blend processing, the proposed compatibilization reaction, and the resulting structure-property relationships in the composite a model blend system was chosen, based on mono-primary amino terminated polystyrene (PS-NH2) and mono-carboxylic acid terminated poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA-COOH), both synthesized by controlled radical polymerization techniques, ATRP and RAFT, respectively. As conducting component and simultaneously acting as multifunctional coupling agent nanometer sized polypyrrole particles were synthesized containing 1,3-oxazoline and 1,3-oxazinone moieties, which selectively react with the carboxylic acid and amino groups, respectively. 6, 7 The focus of the paper will be the synthesis of the conducting functionalized polypyrrole nanoparticles and the reactive blending of them in a PS-NH2/PMMA-COOH matrix to form novel graft copolymers by nucleophilic ring opening reaction.
