Free-space quantum-key distribution with polarization compensation

In the satellite-to-ground quantum-key distribution, the satellite motion changes the photon-polarization direction with respect to the ground constantly, and this must be compensated. We report here the experimental realization of a polarization-compensation scheme using a half-wave plate in free space that simulates a satellite-to-ground link based on a two-mirror model.
