INCREASING THE HIGHWAY CAPACITY WITHOUT ADDITIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE

In this paper, the authors present a summary of the results of studies in which a microscopic freeway traffic simulation model known as MIXIC was built. The objective was to studies the impact of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) on road capacity. The author conclude with a look at the impact of the results to traffic in South Africa.
