The Ostracodes from the Tungshiao Formation (Pleistocene), West Coast of Miaoli District, Taiwan
1986
The present report describes an ostracod fauna consisting of about 100 species belonging 49 genera and under 19 families from the Tungshiao Formation cropping out at three localities about 10km from Miaoli City, Taiwan. Most of the ostracodes are previously known from the other places and different stratigraphic levels of Taiwan but one genus and a small number of species are new. The new genus is Casterocythere and the new species are as follows: Cytherelloidea prohanaii, Bairdia shoufinnae, Leptocythere favata, Callistocythere besani, Paijenborchella paica, Coquimba poga, C. equa, Echinocythereis cathayensis, Bythoceratina reticulata, Cytherura kianomikoi, Hemicytherura anapta, Cytheropteron apteron, Phlycrocythere yuyunae, Cytheromorpha kianotufei, Loxocornuculum lienae. Generally the range of these faunas is indicating that the Tungshiao Formation is of Pleistocene age.
