Visual Search: Clutter and Proximity Effects.

Abstract : The objective of the experimental program proposed in this report is to explore clutter and texture effects and to determine their usefulness as camouflage aids. Several perceptual experiments were conducted. The data from them can be used to help characterize the relation between a military target and its detectability in complex backgrounds. Such work in perception is a necessary step toward the development of camouflage standards for the prime visual threat.
