Method of transmitting and receiving channel quality identifier for sleep mode mobile station

A method of transmitting and receiving a channel quality identifier for a sleep mode terminal is provided to transmit data through a base station by applying a proper adaptive modulating/coding method when downlink traffic to be transmitted to the sleep mode terminal occurs. A service base station shows that data to be transmitted to a terminal 1 is generated through an MOB TRF-IND message by the affirmation indication(S301,S303). The service base station assigns resources for provisional CQICH transmission to the terminal 1(S304). The terminal 1 transmits CQI through a channel for the provisional CQICH transmission(S305). The base station determines modulating/coding methods of corresponding data through the received CQI. The modulated/coded data is transmitted to the terminal 1(S306).
