A Research on the DRM Content Server

2009
Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) is the world's only standard-open digital radio system for short-wave, medium-wave/AM and long-wave radio broadcasting with the ability to use existing frequencies and bandwidth across the globe. Implementation of digital radio in today's AM bands (i.e. long, medium and shortwave) based on DRM will enable operators to provide services which will be successful with both existing and future high-quality services. DRM content server is important part of the DRM radio system. This paper gives a design solution of DRM content server's structure. Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) is known to be the world's only open standard, digital system for short-wave, medium- wave/AM and long-wave with the ability to use existing frequencies and bandwidth across the globe(2). DRM exploits the digital audio compressing and digital coding transfer for the overcome of the shortcomings of the analog AM broadcasting (such as the poor transfer quality, singleness of service) while retaining the advantages of analog AM broadcasting (such as the wide service coverage, availability of fixed, portable and mobile receptions). Implementation of digital radio in today's AM bands based on DRM will enable operators to provide services which will be successful with both existing and future high-quality services. In a good number of countries in present, the favorite broadcasters have already started transmitting live, daily or weekly DRM broadcasts and special programs. The development of the digitized radio in short-wave and median-wave based on DRM technique has become an inevitable trend. Thus the research in the content and service planning related to the DRM radio system will play an essential role in promoting the development of DRM digital radio and also will have great significance in promotion of broadcast technological progress, adjustment of industrial structure and economic benefit. Consequently, as a key part of the DRM radio system, DRM content server research is getting more and more intensively interested.
