A compound of formula (I): ** ** see formula where n = or 1; R1 and R2 are each independently selected from the group consisting of H, lower alkyl, CO2R5, SO2R6, and COR6; or R1 and R2 may form a ring of 5-7 total atoms, carbon atoms bearing optionally substituted by one or two heteroatoms, and said ring atoms may be substituted by OR6; R3 is selected from the group consisting of H, lower alkyl, O-lower alkyl, halogen, OH, CN, NO2 and COOH; R4 is selected from the group consisting of H, lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, O-lower alkyl, halogen, NO2, lower s alkyl, CF3, NR5R6, CONR7R8, CO2R6, OH, and CN; or R3 and R4 - together with the two carbon atoms and bond between them from the benzene ring to which R3 and R4 are attached - form a ring of 5 to 7 carbon atoms optionally substituted by one or two hetero-atoms and said ring atoms may be substituted with C1-C4 alkyl and CO2R6; R40 is H or halogen; R5 and R6 are each independently selected from the group consisting of H, lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, heterocycle, aryl and aryl substituted with lower alkoxy, halogen or CN; R7 and R8 are each independently selected from the group consisting of H, lower alkyl, substituted lower alkyl OR5, and NR5R6; or the group NR7R8 can form a ring of 5 to 7 atoms in total, which, besides the nitrogen to which R7 and R8 are attached, comprising carbon atoms optionally substituted by one or two heteroatoms, and said ring atoms may be substituted with C1-C4 alkyl, COR6, CONR5R6 or CO2R6; or pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester thereof.
