Trial of a New Phenothiazine in Chronic Schizophrenia

1962
The results of two controlled trials of a new low dosage phenothiazine in the treatment of long-standing schizophrenic patients is reported. The results in those (Group B) treated over a short (6-week) period on low dosage (up to 3 mg. daily) were disappointing. In Group A—those treated for three months on doses up to 6 mg. daily—the results were better and statistical evaluation showed the drug to be significantly more active than the placebo. The effective dose was closely related to that which produced extrapyramidal side-effects.
