The comparison of the effect of sodium valproate and topiramate in the treatment of newly diagnosed epilepsy

2017
Objective To explore the effect of sodium valproate and topiramate in the treatment of patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy. Methods A total of 90 patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy were selected from January 2014 to December 2015. The patients were divided into group A and group B by random number method. Group A was treated with sodium valproate, while group B was treated with topiramate. Observed clinical efficacy and adverse drug reactions of the two groups. Results The total effective rate was 95.56% in group B, higher than that in group A (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse drug reactions in group B was 4.44%, and that in group A was 20.00%, with statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion Sodium valproate and topiramate have good effect in the treatment of patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy, but topiramate has better effect and higher safety.
