Construction of a device for transmitting torque when starting an engine with roller clutch

2007
A torque transmission device for an engine starter (1) is equipped with a clutch (7). The coupling (7) includes an inner ring (13), an outer ring (14), a plurality of rollers (15) and a roller retainer (16). The clutch (7) operates in such a manner as to place the rolls selectively in an engaged or attack position, in order to realize transmission of the torque from the inner ring (13) on the outer ring (14) when the inner ring (13) by a starter (2) is set in rotation, and to bring it to a disengagement or attack position to block the transmission of torque from the outer ring (14) to the inner ring (13), when the outer ring (14) a torque obtained, which is generated by a machine (4). The coupling (7) also includes plate springs (17), each one of the rollers (15) pressed into the engagement or attack position. Each of the plate springs (17) is formed by a strip plate which is integral with a body of the roller retainer (16) and is designed so that it has an elasticity, whereby the spaces for arrangement of the plate springs (17) in the circumferential direction of the clutch (7) are required can be reduced. This creates the possibility that the rollers (15) which are arranged along the circumference of the clutch (7), can be enlarged, leading to an increase of the maximum transmittable ...
