The influence of technology on physical activity in adolescents

Abstract Physical activity in early life and adolescence can help set the path for lifelong health in adulthood. An ever-increasing number of adolescents use digital media on a daily basis, and many platforms of media influence physical activity. These include video games, active videogames, eHealth/mHealth interventions, web-based activities, smartphones, wearable devices, and social media. This chapter will further define various media platforms, review the known positive and negative influences on adolescent physical activity, and identify potential areas of research expansion.
