Interprofessional Simulation: TeamSTEPPS and Cardiac Arrest Simulation

2015
This item has been submitted to the repository as part of a collective effort of the nursing faculty and students of the University of Southern Indiana (USI), College of Nursing and Health Professions. This broad dissemination effort will increase the visibility and impact of the work of the USI nursing program and benefit nurses and the nursing profession on a global level. A poster presentation was conducted at the Educator Conference incorporating an interprofessional simulation that was done with BSN Nursing students. Baccalaureate Nursing students were given education about Advanced Cardiac Life Support measures and instructed to perform a simulation utilizing the TeamSTEPPS approach. Providing TeamSTEPPS course material prior to the simulation allowed students to have skills necessary to function as effective team members and understand the importance of communication, teamwork, collaboration and mutual respect during a stressful situation. The interprofessional simulation provided a venue for students to make connections between theory and practice.
