Rapid screening of chromium-tainted gelatin capsules by wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry

2013
Objective:To establish a wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometric method to rapidly screen the chromium-tainted gelatin capsules. Methods:The modified standard curve was set up to determine the concentration of chromium in 20 batches of gelatin capsules, which were frozen and then crushed into fragments before test. Results: The chromium concentration values of 20 batches of gelatin capsules determined by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry were not significantly different from that determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy. Conclusion:The method developed was highly sensitive, simple and feasible, and was suitable for the rapid screening of chromium-tainted gelatin capsules in practice.
