Continuous EEG monitoring in the Intensive Care Unit

Continuous electroencephalography (cEEG) seems a suitable modality to detect both cerebral ischaemia and epileptic seizures. In this review we will provide background information on EEG monitoring, discuss features of cerebral ischaemia and epileptiform activity and describe the pitfalls and caveats in performing and interpreting cEEG in the Intensive Care Unit.
