There is described a security element (3) for a value document comprising a support (2), wherein the security element (3) comprises a volume hologram (6), which is produced by exposing an imageable volume area of ​​the carrier (2). On the carrier (2) is applied a substance which is penetrated at least partially into the carrier (2). Through the substance and the substance penetrated volume regions of the carrier (2) of exposable volume region is formed. It is further described a corresponding document of value (1) and a method for producing such a security element.
