Optimising parameters for a multi-TeV IACT cell

2009
This report centres on a single cell of 5 telescopes which would be considered a pathfinder component for the full array. The investigation looks at the effects of image triggering conditions, telescope separation, image cleaning, image size and site altitude on the flux sensitivity, angular resolution and background rejection. This report presents preliminary results for individually varying these parameters. This provides the first guide in choosing the optimal configuration, where the emphasis is presently on the 10–100 TeV energy band. Results indicate that an improvement in q‐factor and angular resolution is seen for telescope separation 200 m at E<10 TeV. The flux sensitivity achieved in the 10–100 TeV band is ∼2×10−12 ergs/cm2/s with an angular resolution of better than 0.1°.
