Multi-layer composite of leather and thermoplastics

2000
The invention relates to a method for producing a multilayer composite body comprising a leather layer, a layer produced from a first polymer acting as the soft component and adjoining on one side the leather layer, and a layer produced from a second polymer acting as the hard component and adjoining said layer. The leather and the first polymer acting as the soft component are interlinked by means of a tool that has a molding surface on which the leather comes to rest at a pressure of at least 50 bar, preferably of more than 100 bar, especially more than 180 bar, and at a temperature of more than 100 DEG C, preferably 180 to 280 DEG C, especially 200 to 250 DEG C. The molding surface of the tool resting against the leather is brought to the desired temperature and the second polymer acting as the hard component is molded onto the first polymer. The invention further relates to a composite body obtained by the inventive method. The inventive composite body is characterized by its high stability and robustness and imparts a soft touch sensation when the leather surface is touched.
