Prenatal Diagnosis of Meconium Periorchitis and Review of the Literature

2009
We present the seventh case of prenatally diagnosed meconium periorchitis and to our knowledge the only prenatally diagnosed case with an asymptomatic postnatal course. We reviewed the English, French, and Spanish literature for all cases of meconium periorchitis with both prenatal and postnatal diagnosis and investigated the postnatal presentation, the association with cystic fibrosis and meconium peritonitis, and the radiologic findings, including prenatal sonographic findings. Meconium periorchitis is also found in the literature as meconium granulomas, meconium pearls, meconium vaginalis, scrotal calcifications due to meconium peritonitis, meconium hydroceles, and meconium in the processus vaginalis.
