Mechanism for the acceleration of anode foil plasma ions in a relativistic electron beam

1980
The electrostatic ion acceleration produced by the pressure exerted by the random motion in an electron beam is described. The energy to which the ions are accelerated is found to be comparable in magnitude to the voltage across the diode, multiplied by the ion charge, while the number of accelerated ions is on the order of the number of beam electrons.
