We thank Drs Jin-shan and Xue-bin for their interest in our recent study suggesting that pericarditis signals an occult cancer.1
Drs Jin-shan and Xue-bin address the potential economic and patient-related costs of offering screening to all patients presenting with pericarditis, and they inquire about additional characteristics categorizing patients at high risk of cancer. We did not deduce a cost-benefit analysis because such calculations require additional information not captured in our registry and because there are no current strong quality health-economic reports that may bring our results into perspective.
