Accelerator radiation protection instrumentation developed for use at CEBAF

1994
CEBAF is a high-power (200 {mu}A, 4 GeV) cw electron linear accelerator facility intended for particle and nuclear physics research. CEBAF is currently commissioning one of three experimental end stations. Radiation monitoring equipment capable of continuously determining neutron dose equivalent rate and photon exposure rate from near background to the rem/h (R/h) level is used in occupied areas close to the accelerator vault and experiment halls. Similar devices are used to measure dose equivalent at the site boundary. In addition, a discussion of ion chambers used for beam shut-off during beam loss conditions have been designed by CEBAF and constructed under contract, is given. A noble gas monitor for use in measuring activated air is also discussed.
