APPLICATIONS ON A GRID INFRASTRUCTURE FOR ATMOSPHERIC INSTRUMENTS GOMOS, MIPAS, SCIAMACHY, AND CHAMP

2007
We present a collection of atmospheric science applications, which are implemented in the ESRIN Grid Processing on-Demand (G-POD) environment. G-POD provides an efficient and highly collaborative environment to faster process and interpret large amounts of Earth Observation (EO) data. It combines storage and computing elements, which are located in different geographic locations and combines them to a single access point. We focus on G-POD services related to atmospheric data processing, validation, and comparison. The generic beat2grid service enables the access of data via the BEAT toolbox on a grid infrastructure. YAGOP, an application making use of beat2grid, is designed for the exploitation and comparison of GOMOS and MIPAS ozone and temperature data as well as a comparison with corresponding ECMWF analysis data. The GRIMI-2 initiative brought the MIPAS prototype processor for Level 2 data onto grid. Further we discuss results of a unique service for the detection of mesospheric Sodium layers with SCIAMACHY and we present a 3D-Var data assimilation scheme for climate monitoring based on CHAMP Radio Occultation (RO) data.
