Converting light alkanes to aromatics is highly desired but challenging. In this issue of Chem Catalysis, Liu et al. explore the aromatization mechanism of coupling reaction of light alkanes with CO, in which methyl-substituted cyclopentenones are considered important intermediates for realizing high selectivity of aromatics over H-ZSM-5.
