Reduction of residual stresses in welded plates by local heat treatment using moving heat sources

1990
The effectiveness of local low-temperature heat treatment of welded plates using moving normally-circular heat sources is investigated based on solution of the problems of thermoelasticity and thermoplasticity. It is shown that dimensions of the heating zones and their location relative to the welded seams, conditions of heat transfer, and supplementary cooling of the welded seams significantly affect the reduction in residual welding stresses.
