Forty Years of Change in American Medical Education

1970
1) Remarks at the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the National Teacher Training Center of the Seoul National University College of Medicine, 8 May, 2000 It is an honor and a pleasure to speak at this happy occasion, celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the National Teacher Training Center of Seoul National University College of Medicine. It is even more so to be able to honor Dr. Yong Il Kim, who has been the driving force behind the many accomplishments of the NTTC over all of those years. The topic of these remarks is a review of forty years of change in American medical education. The review is not so much a history as it is a set of very personal observations from one who has lived through this period of time attempting to study, and to contribute to the improvement of medical education. Thus, the remarks include changes in medical education which I have observed in my years of study of American medical education, significant changes in medical education which are still taking place, changes in the medical school as an insititution, and a guess at the future of medical education.
