Syntheses, Characterization and Antibacterial Screening of Nd(III) and Gd(III) Complexes of N-(benzothiazol-2- yl)benzenesulphonamide

2017
Reaction of the DMF solution of the ligand, N-(benzothiazol-2-yl)benzenesulphonamide withaqueous solutions of Nd(III) and Gd(III) nitrates gave the respective metal complexes. Thesecompounds were characterized using molar conductivity measurement, elemental microanalysis,IR, 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR and mass spectral studies. The compounds were also, screened for invitro antibacterial activity against a gram-positive bacteria strain (Staphylococuss aureus) andsome gram-negative bacteria strains (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus spp, E. coli strain 6 andE. coli strain 13). Their antibacterial activities were compared with ciprofloxacin andgentamycin. The neodymium(III) complex was found to be more active against the testedbacteria strains than the gadolinium(III) complex and the standard drugs used.
