The invention discloses a method for preparing 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propyl alcohol. The method includes steps of 1), dissolving isobutyraldehyde in solvents to obtain isobutyraldehyde solution, adding halogen sources into the isobutyraldehyde solution in batches at the temperatures ranging from -5 DEG C to 0 DEG C, carrying out reaction, then carrying out distillation at the normal pressures to obtain 2-halogenated aldehyde; 2), dissolving the 2-halogenated aldehyde in isopropyl alcohol, adding catalysts and cocatalysts into the isopropyl alcohol to obtain mixtures, heating the mixtures until the temperatures of the mixtures reach 60-65 DEG C, carrying out reaction, subsequently carrying out rectification treatment on reaction liquid and subsequently carrying out post-treatment to obtain 2-halohydrin; 3), carrying out ammonolysis reaction on the 2-halohydrin in excessive ammonolysis agents and ammonolysis cocatalysts, removing the ammonolysis agents from reaction liquid, carrying out reduced pressure distillation and collecting fraction at the temperatures of 102-104 DEG C (under the pressures of 8.50-8.66 KPa) to obtain the 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propyl alcohol. The method has the advantages of inexpensive and easily available raw materials, mild reaction conditions, safe preparation procedures, high yield and suitability for industrial production.
