COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF APICALLY EXTRUDED DEBRIS WITH HYFLEX EDM, MTWO AND THE SELF ADJUSTING FILE SYSTEMS - AN IN VITRO STUDY

2020
Aim of the Study: To compare and evaluate the amount of apically extruded debris with Hyflex EDM, Mtwo, and the Self-Adjusting File systems.Materials and Methods: Sixty single-rooted human mandibular teeth with straight canals were selected and access cavities were prepared. All the teeth were mounted in the Eppendorf tubes after obtaining the initial weight of the empty tubes. Samples were then divided into three groups (n=20) according to the rotary system used and instrumented with Hyflex EDM, Mtwo, and SAF respectively. After washing the root surface with 1mL distilled water, the tubes were incubated for the next 5 days at 70°C. Then, the dry weight of the debris was calculated. Results were analyzed using ANOVA and post hoc Tukey’s test. Results: All the groups showed debris extrusion. The difference between the amount of apically extruded debris among all the groups was statistically significant (P < 0.001) with SAF showing the least debris extrusion, while Mtwo showed maximum debris extrusion. Conclusion: Compared to other file systems, the SAF showed the least amount of apical debris extrusion and Mtwo showed the highest amount of extruded debris
