High Frequency and High Speed Connector Design for 5G Applications

2021
In this paper, an RF wire-to-board connector with an ultra-low loss cable is proposed to reduce interconnection loss at mmWave frequencies. A new type of the rotary connector structure with a mating height of 1.4 mm is designed to achieve a bandwidth from DC to 45 GHz. This rotary type RF wire-to-board connector may provide ultra-low loss connection solutions for 5G mobile and base station devices, radar systems, satellite modules, etc. Also, a DSFP high speed connector design is presented, where each of the dual high-speed channels in this connector may operate up to 28 GHz. With a PAM4 modulation technique, the aggregated data rate of the DSFP may reach 224 Gbps to support high-speed transmissions for 5G applications.
